TELESCOPE TRAINING WORKSHOPS
The next scheduled event is on Dec 10, 2009.
http://www.pasaz.org/forums/showthread.php?p=672#post672
RSVP is required.
What do we do at Telescope Training Workshops.
1) Bring your telescope, accessories, charts and any other telescope
related items with you to a CLASS / WORKSHOP on how to use
& enjoy your telescope.
We have 2 things going at the same time.
Bring your scope in to Room G-147 on the PVCC campus.
We open the doors at 7pm, and run the event until 10pm.
Learn to use your telescope in the class room where it is
well lit and you can find all the buttons and knobs to make
your scope move smoothly. A skilled amateur astronomer
will assist you, one on one.
2) Then, after you are familiar with how the scope moves,
take it outdoors by the telescope dome
or to the near by parking lot and learn to use it
in the dark. Again, that same astronomer will assist you.
Most people, they get a new telescope for Christmas
or birthday and they try to use it one time, find it frustrating
and put it in a closet someplace, only to sell it later on.
We want you to learn how to use your telescope so that
you can enjoy what we LOVE about our favorite hobby.
There is no comparison to finding a celestial object
all by yourself. Anyone can set up a scope for you
to look through and see Jupiter, the Moon, Saturn,
etc... but for you to do it all by yourself, after
learning from our experienced telescope operators,
really gives you the confidence you need to enjoy the scope
without assistance.
So, come learn with us.
Handouts will be available, with info on telescopes,
accessories, etc. We can use the computers in the Science lab
room to access other info we might want to look up and learn about.
3)
We can help you find the scope you want, as well.
This is a class. We invite children. The catch is you need to RSVp
your childs attendance, if you want me to bring the "Kids Korner"
activities. We have many coloring, word search, fun activities that
have been added to and expanded on in the Kids Korner box
just for the little ones. This gives them something to do while you
are learning to use your telescope. Please let me know
you are bringing children, their ages, and how many. I want
to be sure we have enough activities for all for them. Thanks.
We begin at 7pm but you can arrive anytime up to 9pm
and still get assistance with your telescope.
We have to depart by 10pm, so prepare to pack
up your scope by 9:45 allowing 15 minutes pack up time.
4) Another thing we are doing is having a mini star party. For those
of you who wish to research what type of scope to purchase for yourself,
attend our star party in the parking lot near the Telescope Dome. Ask
questions of the telescope operators. Learn from those who use
their scopes on a regular basis.
We hope to see you at this and many other events.
Questions and ideas can be shared right in this forum.
This will be the location for all upcoming Telescope
Training Workshops. Watch for updates.
And we will see you there!!!
Volunteers who know what they are doing with their telescopes
can RSVP attendance in the Calendar to help out. Your help is requested!
