Free Public Star Party in Carefree - Change in Plans

Tonight's event, June 16 has a change in plans.

The Star Party portion of the event is NOW Cancelled, due to too many clouds.

This event is happening, however, the star party portion of this event is cancelled. Instead, due to too thick of cloud cover, we will have an open discussion about astronomy, Cosmology, telescopes, etc.

RSVP is open. Call for directions: 480 488 3031. Since the event is starting at 6pm, please do not call after 6pm.

The potluck has been cancelled, but the event is now beginning at 6pm.
Come and go as you need to, there is no set activity.

Weather update: Clouded out. Telescopes can not see through the clouds. However, the temperature should be awesome and no rain is due to fall during the event.

Please note:
1) no telescopes will be able to see through the clouds
2) This will be an indoor event where by there will be an astronomy availble to talk about and answer questions about:
a) Meteorites
b) Telescopes
c) Cosmology / astronomy
d) The event now begins at 6pm with no potluck.

Free Public Star Party in Carefree

Remember: All Star Parties are Weather Permitting.

RSVP is Required:
  • Address in Carefree will be provided with RSVP.
  • Public RSVP is through Terri at
  • When you RSVP, a map and the address of the location of this Lecture in Carefree will be sent to you via email. This is a PAS Members' home.
  • If you need to cancel your RSVP, drop Terri another email.
  • This event is Free and open to the public. It is kid friendly so please do not bring alcohol to this event.
  • PAS Members, please RSVP below.

Potluck is 6pm
RSVP to attend potluck in your email.
  • If you are bringing food to the potluck, please provide what food you are bringing in your RSVP email. We try to have a variety, so check the Forum Thread to see what is coming, and provide something different. The Potluck starts right at the designated time, and NOT before.
  • For the potluck, bring a food to share with enough to feed everyone in your party plus one, and bring a drink to share, like a 2 liter bottle of soda or a 6 pack of soda, or bottled water or fruit juice.

  • Parking is also limited, later arrivals may need to park in the
  • Wash below the house.
  • It is advised you arrive a minimum of 15 minutes prior to dark so you can navigate the parking by a little daylight.

Here is the Public Forum Thread to track attendance of everyone who RSVP's. Please read this Thread in case any changes are needed to this event:
  • If your arrival time is not in time for the potluck, please let Terri know about what time you expect to arrive. This helps with knowing where to park your vehicle.

Star Party begins 7:30pm:
  • PAS Members are bringing their High Powered Telescopes to this event for your viewing Pleasure. Here are a few rules that need to be followed at this event, to keep this event as FREE admission:
  • Please DO NOT Touch the Telescopes.
  • Please wear close-toed shoes as this location has a gravel & cactus observing area.
  • Also, NO white light is allowed in the observing area. If you have a cell phone and need to use it or answer a call, walk away from the observing area so we maintain dark adapted eyes.
  • If you can, it is preferred you bring a Red filtered flashlight to navigate the unlevel Observing Area.
  • These star parties can last until morning, but usually end by 2am. You are welcome to stay as late as you wish.

June 16 Star Party Info:
Sunset 7:40pm
Dark is about 9:10pm
Moon is 15% lit and sets 10:30pm
Venus is visible 7:45pm
Jupiter is visible 7:50pm
Mercury is visible 8:02pm and sets 8:35pm
Saturn rises 8:20pm
An Irridian Flare may be seen in the West near Venus and the Moon
around 20:16:48
Mars rises 10:40pm
