PAS/PVCC Indoor/Outdoor Astronomy Event

Room G-147 & Telescope Dome
Event will be from 7:30pm to 9:30pm for the public.

PAS Volunteers are asked to arrive around 7pm for set up. There may be a class running in there a little late, Dave says. But, be prepared to bring your items in close to 7pm.

10/24/08: This event was a huge success. If you missed it and wish to try for the next one, we have another scheduled in February 2009. See you there!

The PAS Indoor Astronomy Event is just what it says. Come join us as we do hands-on Astronomy demos, where you get to test your knowledge of astronomy, learn from those who love the subject, and get to experience really cool things inside the classroom.


This event will happen indoors - Rain or Shine.


Indoor activities:

Chet - imaging spectrograph to help illustrate the following subjects:

* The characteristics of color perception
* An explanation of color imaging techniques
* The nature and characteristics of light polution (LP)
* How filters reduce the effects of LP for visual astronomy
* How filters improve imaging under LP conditions
* The use of narrow band filters for both imaging and observing

Mike - Meteorite Man
  • Hands on touching of meteorites & more.

For the outdoor portion, if skies are clear, a collection of telescopes will be available for your viewing pleasure.

Telescope operators for our evening viewing by the telescope domes on campus will be:

It will be an awesome night to be outdoors, NO MOON, so
any object we view will be spectacular since we don't have to fight
the brightness of the Moon.
