Meet & Greet the Guest Speaker - Dinner before the Meeting 4:30pm

RSVP is required - provide first name of all attendees.
This is a BUY YOUR OWN dinner.

Come Meet and Greet our guest speaker – Dr. David Williams - at the Dec 5th Dinner before the Meeting at Chili's which is at:
513 E Bell Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85022

Reservation will be made the morning of the Meet and Greet dinner and an email will be sent to you with the name the reservation is under and the number in the party, once the reservation is made. So, please RSVP by the DAY BEFORE, to attend this dinner.

It is advised that anyone attending, arrive between 4:30 and 5pm, because Chili's isn't all that fast to have dinner at and have time to drive to the Meeting, so come early so you can leave right at 6:30pm to get to the meeting.

“Update on NASA Small Body Missions” What we know about all the missions to asteroids.

Dr. David A. Williams is an Associate Research Professor in the School of Earth and Space Exploration at Arizona State University, Tempe, Arizona. Dr. Williams is the Director of the Ronald Greeley Center for Planetary Studies, the NASA Regional Planetary Information Facility at ASU. He is also the Director of the NASA Planetary Aeolian Laboratory, which administers wind tunnels at ASU and the Ames Research Center in California. David is currently performing research in volcanology and planetary geology, with a focus on planetary mapping, geochemical, and remote sensing studies. His research has included computer modeling of seismic wave propagation through planetary interiors, visible and near-infrared spectroscopy of the lunar surface, planetary geologic mapping of the satellites of Jupiter and Saturn, the planet Mars, the asteroid Vesta and the dwarf planet Ceres, computer modeling of the physical and geochemical evolution of lava flows in a variety of planetary environments, and petrologic study of lava samples from Mount St. Helens. He was involved with NASA’s Magellan Mission to Venus, Galileo Mission to Jupiter, and Dawn Mission to asteroid Vesta and dwarf planet Ceres. He is a Co-Investigator on the European Space Agency’s Mars Express orbiter mission. He is also a Co-Investigator and Deputy Lead for the multispectral imager on NASA’s Psyche Mission. In 2014 David was elected a Fellow of the Geological Society of America, and asteroid 10,461 DAWILLIAMS was named in his honor. He is currently serving as Secretary of the Planetary Sciences Section of the American Geophysical Union.

PAS Meetings are on the First Thursday of each month, Sept to May, unless otherwise noted. The January Meeting isn't on the first Thursday because PVCC is closed for the holidays and doesn't reopen until 2 weeks into the new year.

Meeting gathers at 7pm for Socializing, setting up the Guest Speaker,
taking care of the Raffles, gathering Announcements, & snacking.

7:30 Meeting begins with a few brief announcements and then
we turn it over to the Guest Speaker. When the guest speaker concludes,
there may be the raffle drawing & any announcements that didn't get covered prior to the start of the Guest Speaker's presentation.

Most meetings have snacks and drinks available. Donations are accepted,
but not required. Bring a snack to share or donate to the snack fund. The snack fund provides the case of water each month and the pizza for the Annual Awards Ceremony & pizza party in April.

The group sometimes goes to Village Inn at Bell & 40th Street - 4040 East Bell Road, Phoenix, AZ 85032 for evening snacks after the meetings. Please see the President or Vice President at the meeting to find out if there will be a a group trip to Village Inn after the meeting.

We also, sometimes, take the Guest Speaker to dinner prior to the meeting. A separate Calendar listing will be posted to collect RSVP's for attendance. Locations vary, check calendar for locations. Please always RSVP by the day before to be included in Dinner.
