Default UPdate for Dec 13 event

Update for Dec 13 event:

Tim asked me to ask PVCC if it was ok to arrive earlier than the 6pm set up
time, to do some extra viewing because the sun is setting earlier and
some PAS Members may wish to get some additional viewing in while the
sun is out of the way.

I forwarded this request on to Loretta, our contact at PVCC BMC and
here is what she wrote:

"I have the staff setting up at 4:00, so 5pm would be fine.

Also I will work with Bad Donkey to move the Trailer for the event.

/Loretta"

What this means for you, PAS Member, is that if you wish to
set up earlier than 6pm, fell free to join Tim and others
at BMC.

Please, move your vehicles out of the observing area once
you have unloaded. Why? Because I expect a lot of scopes,
and a ton of people. I have been advertising this event
all over the place, and i know Loretta has been, too, so we
should have so many public and a bunch of scopes. We need
the room for the scopes.

The attached JPG shows the layout of the campus
and where we set up.

Where the "Y" is in the word Star Party, is where
we want to block, with 2 or 3 vehicles, long ways
across the entrance to the Star Party area,
higher vehicles so that we can block the light
coming from any cars coming towards the observing
area from the East parking lot.

Where we have it marked as 'No parking"
is where we want cars lined up, long ways across the parking
spots, to block light from the next isle down, marked as "public parking"
for those cars who will be pulling into the spots and their
headlights will be beaming right at the observing area.

If you can assist with this, please pack the cars in tight so that
we can block as much light as possible at this event. We do not
have a MOON this night, so we want to stay as dark as possible.
Your help is appreciated. If you are unsure where to park,
as Tim or Terri. Tim will probably be there before I get there,
so if you arrive before I do, please check with Tim as he knows
where to put the vehicles, too.

Pull up into the area marked "party", where it says "star party"
and unload, then carry your scope to the observing area,
which is "star". Thanks.

Please drop me an email if you plan to attend earlier than the 6pm
set up time. I will be there as quick as i can that day.

Have a super Tuesday!

Default Not canceled yet - will decide on Wednesday

Sam sends this weather update that I felt was important to share:

NOAA says 100% cloud cover, 96% chance of rain, and 13-20 mph winds for Thursday night at Blk Mountain campus, The Weather Channels says 60% chance of rain, and Accuweather says 80% chance of rain and 89% cloud cover. You may want to wait until Wed afternoon to cancel PVCC Blk Mountain in case the storm is delayed or goes around the valley, but right now it looks awful.

--------

Sam writes this update on the weather as of 12/12/12 11:50pm:

Terri, As of 10 am this morning (Wed) the following are weather forecasts for Thursday night: NOAA 100% cloud cover, 79% chance or rain, 6-7 mph winds, Accuweather 94% cloud cover, 55% chance or rain, The weather channel 80% chance or rain, 5-10 mph winds, Clear Sky very cloudy with bad seeing and bad transparency as of 5 pm Thursday evening, Skippy Sky 30% cloud cover as of 8 pm and 60% cloud cover as of 11 pm. As can be seen, only Skippy Sky gives a glimmer of hope predicting the weather front is coming in a little later, while the other 4 weather forecasts are very poor. I think we should make a decision by 6 pm tonight since we have so many rsvp's.
