Default Grand Canyon Star Party June 17-24 2017

One of the best, darkest skies, longest Star Parties in the South West - the Grand Canyon Star Party for this year is from June 17 to 24. Here are some of the details:

This year the Grand Canyon star party will be June 17-24 at the South Rim and the North Rim. If you can attend, you will be in for a treat. There are 50 to 100 telescopes from all over the US, and the dark skies and wonderful natural beauty of the surroundings make it a great adventure for several days of fun. The Tucson Astronomy Club hosts the South Rim activities and the Saguaro Astronomy Club hosts the North Rim activities. Dennis Young, a PAS member, has brought his huge telescope many years in a row to the South Rim, and Mark Johnston has brought his large refractor to the North Rim over 5 years in a row. Last year, Earl, Christine, Frank, Vera and I went to the North Rim and viewed through the many scopes. We then spent another night viewing through our own scopes halfway between the N Rim and Jacobs Lake, which was a Bortle 1 experience. Anyone attending the N Rim this year, feel free to contact me and I can give you the location of the Bortle one viewing area.
This year Vera, Frank and I will be at the S. Rim. There are lectures and slide shows on astronomy every night on both rims. Hope some of you will be able to enjoy this great event.
Take care, Sam Insana President of PAS

Mark writes: Thanks Sam. This year I'll be back on the north rim again doing both HA solar and night time observing, and will be presenting on "Looking back in time in Astronomy" in the main lodge on June 20th. It's not too early to make reservations for 2018, it will be June 9-16. I have mine.
