Default Oct 15, 2009 PAS Indoor/Outdoor Astronomy Event for the whole family!

On Oct 15, 2009 PAS will host on the PVCC Campus
the next Indoor/Outdoor Astro Event.

I have set up this forum to discuss the planning of this event
as well as to let the public know what kind of hands on
activities we will have this year.

At PVCC come to G-147 for the Indoor portion
& right outside, by the telescope domes, we will
have telescopes set up for viewing.

If you plan to attend, & you are a PAS member,
RSVP in the Calendar please & send me your
planned activity (telescope or indoor event).

If you are the Public, please RSVP in the calendar or
in this forum, so that should the OUTDOOR PORTION
of this event become canceled due to weather,
you will know about it before driving to PVCC.
The Indoor portion will continue, RAIN OR SHINE.
See map & directions to PVCC in the calendar
for Oct 15th.

Hope to see you there!

Default Event info update

For the OUTDOOR portion of this event
we will have telescopes set up for viewing.

Currently we have the following telescopes lined up.
  • Rod: 4.5" in with solar & 6" newt
  • Don:
  • Dennis: 28" scope
  • Bruce: 20" Scope

Please remember, the Outdoor portion is WEATHER PERMITTING.
That means, if it is cloudy, or weather gets in the way, this portion
of the event may be canceled.

----------------

For the INDOOR portion of this event
we have the following activities lined up.
  • GEOLOGY & ASTRONOMY - How do they relate?
45 minute lecture beginning at 8pm by Sal. CANCELED - SPEAKER HAS A SORE THROAT!
  • Mike - Meteorite Man
  • Terri - Various demos + PAS Tshirt sales

This portion of the event will happen RAIN OR SHINE.

-------------------

RSVP IS REQUIRED
by everyone.
We want to know who is attending, how many are attending,
especially how many children under 17 years old,
so that we may have the proper number of handouts
and activities to keep everyone busy learning about astronomy.
I appreciate your RSVP's well in advance.

--------------------

Attending public:
  • Bruce & Sherry
  • Mark
  • George

There are always more attending than who RSVP.
But many thanks goes to those who did RSVP for
the event so that I can be sure to have enough
handouts for everyone!

Default Update of tonight's event activites

Visible tonight:

Sunset 4:45pm
Jupiter rises in S.E. around 5pm
Dark is 6:30pm

Telescope setup time is 7pm in new parking lot S of telescope dome
Event begins 7:30pm for the public

Jupiter will be S and at the Zenith around 7:30pm
No moon means an awesome dark sky night for other awesome objects

Event ends at 9:30 to allow time for everyone to pack up.
If there is a crowd around the telescopes, feel free to stay up to
9:45pm.

Photos will be taken, so when Bette or William come
over to the scopes, close eyes as not to loose night vision.
I've asked them to announce if they are taking any photos
by the scopes, prior to shooting the photo so everyone there
can close their eyes for the moment.

Weather looks awesome for tonight:
0 chance of rain
0 clouds in the sky
28% humidity
81 degrees - perfect temps
2 mph winds

If that forecast stays accurate through tonight, the viewing
session will be absolutely awesome.

See you there!

Default Thanks to the volunteers!!!

This event was a great success. Thank you
all for volunteering, especially Dennis from Sedona
and Bruce.
Thanks to all the attendees, as the event went very well
and there was plenty to do for everyone.

Thanks to Dave for keeping the room open so much longer
than 10pm that night.

We hope to see you at the next event in April 2010.
