Default Jan 21 2010 Telescope Training Workshop

Bring the entire family and every friend you have to this
exciting event.

Indoors:
Learn from one of our telescope operators,
the one that knows how to use your scope the best,
one on one, how to operate your telescope
by the light of day.

Then, go outside, with that same instructor,
and learn to use your telescope by evening.

WEATHER PERMITTING.

I saw, in the forecast, as of 1/13, rain is due for
the week of this event on Monday and Tuesday.
Should the storm wait and arrive later in the week,
and if it is raining or looks like rain, this event
may be canceled. Watch the weather.
The indoor portion of the training session
will take place, if sky is cloudy or clear.
However, if it is raining, we do not want you
to transport your scope to G-147 on
the PVCC campus, in the rain.

So, clear and cloudy, the indoor portion of this
event will happen, as we can still train you by
daylight.
Raining, at all, even just a sprinkle, cancels this event.

The indoor portion will also have handouts and info
about telescopes, plus we can use the computers
within the room to show you some really awesome
sites to purchase and research accessories for your
scope.

The outdoor portion, clear skies only, will be an observing
session. There will be telescopes set up in the near
by parking lot, for your enjoyment.

This event is FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC!!!

RSVP is REAUIRED!!!
If no Public RSVP's, event is canceled.

RSVP by emailing Terri at Events@pasaz.org by 3pm
day of event,
or calling Terri, if after 3pm at 602-561-5398,
or by sigining up in an entry in this forum,
or by going to the calendar date for this event, Jan 21, 2010,
and putting in your RSVP there.

Everyone attending must RSVP, including
Telescope Instructors.

We will see you there.
Watch this forum for updates on this event!!!

Default Update 2/8:

I noticed today in the weather forecast that covers this Thursday,
we may have a very wet Wednesday into Thursday morning.

If that is the case, we will be canceling this event as no one wants
to set up their scope on a soggy ground. Even if we are in
the parking lot, the ground will be wet and no fun to have a star party.

So, watch the weather. As of today, i took in one more public RSVP.

Should any of my telescope TEAM meet up with Ben, he is
doing research to find out what type of scope to purchase. So,
tell him the pros and cons to each scope you have worked with
so he can get the notes he needs to make a good choice.

Also, please note:

PUBLIC: We have another Telescope Workshop set up for 2/21
at Bookmans, in the backroom. This would only be the indoor
portion but we are there for 2 hours to answer questions
and show you what we know to help you along. Should
this event become canceled due to the wet weather,
please consider RSVp'ing for the Feb 21st event.

We hope to assist you anyway we can. See you there!!!

Default Update for 2/10:

Weather update as of tonight:

By 8pm on Thursday we will have 23% cloud cover.
The winds will be low, 2mph.
10% change of rain, 56% humidity.
It will be moist out there, which mean Dew on the telescopes.
Temperature will be 52 degrees.

As of today, I have decided I can not attend the event.
Sunday, my daughter informed me that she is breaking up
with her fionce', and thus, moving back in with us.
That's a complete joke, as there is hardly room for us
in our home, and now we are going to put her, and her
stuff in here with us. So, Monday i started organzing
things, and moving stuff from one room to another,
to accomodate her move in. Tuesday, i did a bit more of it
with their help. Today i did some filing and organizing.
All of this is leading to moving the Office stuff of Storage
for the Vendnig business out of Amanda's room, and into the
Office where it actually belongs, and along those same
lines, moving all that is NOT Vending/business, out of
the office, and into her room. There's less of it going
into her room than going into the office. The next step is
to get all the stuff I was posting on Craig's list out of
her room and moved someplace else, so that when she moves
in with her bed, dresser, etc, she actually has the room to do it.

So, I will not be attending tomorrow night's event due to moving Amanda.
We will be doing this clear to the end of President's Day.

Please enjoy the event without me.

Default Update 2/11:

Today is the day.

I'm looking at the forecast for tonight's weather.
Let's see what it says at 11am.

It's looking good.
23% clouds, that's one of the things that might get in the way.
You never know where those clouds are going to hang out
in the sky... Above? on the Horizon?
No rain, very little breeze.
58% humidity, and 52 degrees.
Well, other than it being cold and damp,
it looks good.

So, I'm going to check my email for more RSVP's
and see what I have in Volunteers. That
will make the decision on doing this event.

Default Canceled & How does canceling an event work within PAS?

Due to Massive Cloud cover - we are canceling tonights event!

How does canceling an event work in PAS?

As event coordinator, I send out an email
to those folks who are on the Weather Watchers list.
You need only sign up if you are interested in helping
to decide if a star party is canceled and if you have
a cool, fairly accurate weather site to use to
get the needed data for that night's forecast.

I send out an email asking my Weather Watchers
to watch a particular zip code, in this case, it is
85032, the location where PVCC is.

Then, i wait for the forecast. All I look for is
3 PAS members / Weather Watchers
to tell me the weather is not good enough to
hold the star party, and we cancel.

The other way we cancel events is if there
aren't enough Public RSVP's, like for this event.
I had no Public RSVP's, and so, holding the
event was totally dependent on weather this time.

And another way we cancel is if we don't have enough
PAS volunteers to make the event successful.

So, if you really want to hold an event, the above
criteria needs to be met in order to keep the
event going. I realize we tend to cancel
a few more events due to weather than anything
else, but it is good to keep in mind that if 3 PAS
Members give me input of canceling an event,
we cancel it.

We hope to see you at the next Telescope Workshop.
Have a super day!

Here are the next Telescope Workshops at this link:

Default Aug 12, 2010 PAS Telescope Workshop at PVCC

Our first RSVP has come in for this event.
We need volunteers to do a mini star party
as well as share the wonders of how to use
a telescope with those who wish to learn.

Please be sure to RSVP for this event so that if
we need to cancel it due to weather, you will
be notified of the cancellation.

See you over there. We hope
for an awesome turnout and lots
of Telescope Teachers.

You may RSVP by phone 602-561-5398
or email Events@pasaz.org up to
noon the day of the event.
